Belinda Preston, Psychologist
Belinda Preston is a Registered Psychologist who specialises in working with children, adolescents and adults. Belinda has nine years’ experience working as a Psychologist. Belinda has specialised in assisting people with experiences of childhood sexual abuse, physical or emotional abuse, neglect, sexual assault, problematic mental health issues, risk of suicide, drug and alcohol abuse or dependence issues. Additionally, Belinda has experience in relation to medico-legal issues, conducts Psychological Assessments, treatment and completes court reports.
Furthermore, Belinda has fifteen years’ experience working in the treatment of mental health conditions, drug and alcohol dependence or abuse issues and working with victims or perpetrators of serious crime. Belinda has worked extensively with people detained in custody or who have committed serious or violent criminal offences.
Belinda’s approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative and non-judgemental. Belinda aims to develop client centred treatment plans to address the specific needs of the person. This process occurs in collaboration with the client.
Belinda is experienced in a range of psychological approaches including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and refers to trauma Informed practices. Belinda uses her extensive experience and evidence based practices to determine which therapeutic approach would be most suitable for each individual by assessing what would be the most effective approach or combination of approaches to assist the person to improve the their mental health and overall quality of life.
Belinda is a Medicare accredited Psychologist and a Victim Services approved counsellor with the Attorney General and Justice Department.
Belinda is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and is the Coordinator of the Mental Health Professional Network, Central Coast. Belinda is also trained to facilitate the ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) program and has an interest in reducing the suicide rate in Australia and internationally.
